With just over a
month to go before what promises to be an exciting start to the 2008 MotoGP
season, the ambitious lighting project at Losail International Circuit is
progressing perfectly ahead of the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar, which will take
place under lights on the evening of March 9th, 2008.
The last floodlight
post has now been installed at the Qatari track by US based firm Musco Lighting,
meaning that the company’s unique Mirtran lighting system is now in place for
an historic first motorsports World Championship Grand Prix to be held at
night.
Furthermore, a final, night-time MotoGP testing session will take place
at Losail from 28th February, just over a week before the opening
round of the season - where the teams will get a chance to accustom themselves
to the racing conditions, following a previous test by five MotoGP riders in
November 2007.
Pre-season
preparations continue apace elsewhere, with the majority of the 2008 MotoGP grid
having commenced their second test of the year today at Phillip Island, with
Yamaha Tech3’s Colin Edwards setting the pace on day one at the Australian
venue, whilst Ducati Marlboro’s World Champion Casey Stoner lapped second
fastest at his home circuit.
The
Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar will take place on March 9th,
2008.
