Cernics Kawasaki Makes Fourth Main Event Appearance

The team also launches a new website for team updates and information at www.cernicskawasaki.com

Riverside, CA, (Feb. 5, 2008) – Cernic’s Kawasaki rider Jeff Gibson secured another top twenty finish at round five of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.  A crowd of 43,785 fans watched the Cernics Kawasaki rider qualify and compete in the main event held at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium.   Gibson has qualified in four out of five main events this season and is currently 22nd in points.

Gibson’s heat race went well as the Blacklick, Ohio rider got a good start in the top five.  He battled throughout the race to secure a fourth place finish and transferred directly to the main event.  Teammate Kyle Mace continues to struggle in his heat race and did not qualify.  However, Mace grabbed the holeshot in the Last Chance Qualifier and was in qualifying position until the last lap of the race.  He went on to finish third and missed the main event by one position to received the Racer X Gas Card award.

Once again, the premier Supercross Class was stacked with the world’s best supercross riders and Jeff Gibson qualified as one of the fastest riders.  Gibson’s great gate pick did not translate into a good start as Gibson came out of the first turn near the back of the pack.  Gibson rode well enough to move into a battle for a top ten finish but a small mistake led to a fall.  Once again he found himself near the back and eventually finished in seventeenth position.

“I thought I rode really well in my heat race and felt very good going into the main,” explained Gibson.  “The bottom line is that I just didn’t get a good start in the main event.  I had to battle and I put myself in a great position to finish in the top ten but I just made a slight mistake that cost me.”

The Cernics Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA next week for round six of the Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship on February 9, 2008.
