MICHAEL JORDAN MOTORSPORTS SUZUKI
RETURNS TO DAYTONA
Aaron Yates and Geoff May Ready for
Season Opener
Aurora, IL (February
29, 2008) –
Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki returns to Daytona International Speedway
March 3-5,
2008 for the
season opener in the AMA Superbike series.
New to the Jordan Suzuki starting line-up this season is rider Geoff May.
May, a former AMA Superbike Rookie of
the Year, finished fourth in overall points in the 2007 AMA Superstock series
and earned six top-five finishes, including four podium finishes, in nine race
starts. He joins Aaron Yates, who
returns to the Jordan Suzuki team for a second season.
Last season, Yates had six top-five
finishes in the Superstock class, including four podium finishes and a race
win. He also placed in the top five in
11 of 19 Superbike events, earning three podium finishes. While both riders will
race Suzuki GSX-R1000s, May will concentrate on the Superstock Championship,
while Yates will compete in both the AMA Superstock and Superbike classes.
May, 27, who earned championships in
WERA, CCS and Formula USA racing before
turning pro in 2000, is excited about returning to Daytona. “It’s my favorite track,” said May. “I love the prestige of the course and I’ve
done pretty well there.” At Daytona in
2007, May earned third place in Superstock and fifth place in Superbike
races. In 2006, he led the most laps
(seven) in the Superstock event. May
achieved his career fastest speed of 198 mph on a Superstock Suzuki GSX-R1000 at
Daytona.
Yates, who hopes to return to the
podium next week said, “I’m training hard and am ready to ride.” The four-time AMA champion has won titles in the
1000cc Superstock, 600cc Supersport, 750cc Supersport and SuperTeams
classes. He has also won the top podium
spot at Daytona in both the 600 and 750cc Supersport events.
“We are very excited about 2008,”
said team general manager Ken Abbott.
“We hope to continue our momentum in both the Superstock and Superbike
classes after last season’s two class wins and 15 podium finishes. Our team is strong in the Superstock class
and we’d like to earn the class title.
We’ve also invested in some strategies we hope will keep Jordan Suzuki in
the hunt for more podiums in Superbike as well.”
Jordan Suzuki and Geoff May are
proud to welcome Geoff Cesmat and Rick Bretl to May’s Superstock crew. Attack Performance and Attack Race Bodies
will also provide technical support to the entire Jordan Suzuki paddock.
