Willis Podiums Three Times at WERA Las Vegas

The second round of the 2008 WERA West took place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past Sunday under sunny skies and high temperatures.

Looking to score solid point finishes in the three WERA West classes he’s contesting this season Garrett Willis went into the weekend with an increasing level of confidence in his machine and set up.

The first race of the day for Garrett in the C Superbike Expert class developed into a rematch of the battle he had with Tommy Aquino at the January 13th WERA West round. The race turned into a braking and straightway contest that saw Willis working hard to make up time on the brakes to keep the race close, ultimately he finished in second place.

For his second start of the day in the C Superstock Expert class Garrett got out to an early lead. While pushing hard trying to break away, Garrett started to tuck the front which resulted in an off road excursion which he was able to recover from without crashing. Willis got back on track in third position and kept pushing to make up the lost ground and ultimately finished in the third spot for his second podium of the day.

With two solid finishes already and a quick recovery from a near disaster Garrett went into his final race of the day with a goal of adding more points to his previous tally in the B Superstock class. Although he’s spotting the competition some displacement in this 750 class while riding his Honda CBR600RR Garrett really enjoys the challenge presented in racing the bigger bikes and put his head down and went to work locking in his second place finish and his third podium finish of the day.

After the races Garrett said “It looks like Tommy and I have a great season of close racing to look forward to. He has his strengths and I have mine so it should be really competitive as we go to different types of tracks. It’s really fun to race so closely with someone and especially when you have experience with them and can trust them to race cleanly.”

The next race on the schedule for Garrett is with the AFM at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA on April 27th, 2008.
