From Pirelli Press
Rome,
Georgia: At
Fontana, California’s Auto Club Speedway – formerly known as California Speedway
– Pirelli riders earned half the front row in Formula Xtreme qualifying for
Saturday’s race. Steve Rapp stopped the clocks with the second-fastest time of
the grid on his Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R, shod with Pirelli Superbike Slicks.
Rapp’s teammate Chaz Davies is right behind him on the second row at seventh
quickest, qualifying on his backup bike after a minor fall midway through the
session.
Joining Rapp on the front row for the FX race is Larry
Pegram on his team Leo Vince/Foremost Insurance
Ducati 848, earning the third best time. Joining Davies on row two is Martin
Cardenas riding a GSX-R600 for the M4 EMGO Suzuki team. Cardenas set the
fifth-best time during qualifying which put him on the inside of row two, a
formidable position for this Columbian rider who tends to go even quicker in
races than in qualifying. With Pirelli riders earning four of the top-seven
fastest times the battle has moved from one for the podium to being for the
Formula Xtreme win.
In Superstock practice at the Auto Club road course, the fastest Pirelli
rider was Blake Young riding for team M4 EMGO Suzuki, setting the fourth-best
time of the day’s single session. Fifth fastest was Robertino Pietri on his
Roadracingworld.com Suzuki GSX-R1000. In with the eighth-best time was Pietri’s
teammate Chris Ulrich, followed by Hawk Mazzotta with the ninth best, each also
on GSX-R1000s.
Supersport
practice saw four Pirelli riders in a row with the fifth through eighth best
times of the morning practice. Chaz Davies and teammate Steve Rapp led the group
with their Attack Kawasaki ZX-6Rs, with M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Cory West and Blake
Young putting their GSX-R600s in the seventh and eighth fastest spots.
