GYT-R ~ Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing

As much fun as DB's bike was, I wasn't just here to play Ricky-racer, I was also here to sample some of Yamaha's very own kit parts for the Yamaha R1. Now, Yamaha are a little unique to some of the other OEM manufacturers, they'll gladly supply you with some trick race parts to get your bike moving a little quicker, not just the R1 either, the R6 is well covered, as is the naked Fizzy1.
Get this, if you buy these goodies you get some added value, first off you'll get a 90-day warranty on those GYT-R parts, and second, you won't void your existing warranty. That, my fellow 2Dubber's, is having your cake and eating it.
On hand were a few R1's ranging from the stocker to a couple of GYT-R loaded bikes that had a couple of minor engine mod's and lashings of carbon, titanium and other trick bits and bobs. Now a stock R1 is not too shabby out on the track. This particular example came with street rubber and we were informed that once they were burnt off, our day was over. The bike did all I asked and I had fun riding it.
Next up was the GYT-R equipped version - the two versions on hand included one with a GYT-R Ti slip-on and the second with the Carbon fiber slip-on. These exhausts gave a nice increase of both power and sound, a pleasant sound at that, resonating around the empty speedway.
Both bikes also featured the GYT-R air funnels set. These are basically longer intake boots for the number two and three cylinders. They give a nice healthy midrange boost of around 3.5 gee gee's at the 7000-8000 rev range and a 2 pony boost between 9000-11000 RPM.
The cost? A whopping $99.95, talk about bang for your buck - hey, and even your mum could fit these in about 30 minutes… while she's in there getting dirty, get her to chuck in the also available K&N air filter too.
For sportier ergonomics the bikes were also replete with GYT-R rear sets. These move your toes to a safer location, especially as you do tend to drag your pegs a little in the tight twisty "stuff". The up and backwards relocation felt reasonably comfortable to this lanky old guy, and as an added bonus could be adjusted three ways, stock location, up and back or down and back… more cake.
To address the cosmetics, and because carbon fiber is as addictive to us sporties as chrome is to the Harley crowd, the bikes also featured some of Yamaha's own carbon pieces. The GYT-R catalog lets you buy quality carbon replacements for the front and rear fenders, various accent parts - like heel guards and chain guards, and even a fork and dash cover. The great thing is, Yamaha makes them for your Yamaha, so everything fits and looks like it's stock.
So, they have the motor covered, aesthetics taken care of - what next? How about some crash protection? Tip-overs are expensive and you can reduce your potential for wallet crushing damage by installing crash bobbins. Never fear GYT-R also have frame sliders that require no frame or fairing cutting to fit. So you don't have to damage your bike to stop damaging your bike.
So, we've established that the Yamaha R1 is a great bike, confirmed with the fact that there have been over 32,000 of them sold since 98' - it's nice to see that Yamaha are acknowledging that you can make it better, and providing parts to do just that.

The Yamaha R1
was the No.1 open class seller last year and is locked in a two-way tie with the Gixxer 03' for this years laurels - however, between GYT-R and Graves Motorsports, you can have all the parts you're looking for, to maintain that performance edge.
