Harley Davidson Dark Custom - The Forty-Eight
By Mirage
Harley-Davidson (HD) introduced its newest motorcycle recently – the Forty-Eight and of course 2WF was there to cover it. The premiere had a “back to basics” theme and it fit the event and venue extremely well. I spoke to some of the lead designers (Casey, Frank and Rich - great bunch of guys) and HD wants to not only produce motorcycles that are of the highest quality but also re-connect with the pure joy of riding.
That said, the Forty-Eight comes with Harley’s air-cooled Evolution 1200cc V-Twin engine that produces 79 ft. lbs. of torque which should be more than enough oopmh to get you off the line in a hurry. A peanut fuel tank holds 2.1 gal. of fuel and with an estimated 42/57 mpg rating it should give you some fun time in the saddle.
Chopped front and rear fenders, blacked out components, under-mounted mirrors and side-mounted license plate definitely give the Forty-Eight a distinctive appearance. With a 5 speed transmission, ESPFI and 16-inch black steel laced wheels; HD is continuing to refine its motorcycles.
MSRP is $10,499 in vivid black although the Forty-Eight is available in two other color options: Brilliant Silver and Mirage Orange Pearl for an additional $300.
Oh and if you're wondering why HD named the bike Forty-Eight, well it's because that's the year they put the first peanut-style fuel tank on a 1948 edition motorcycle. The following is HD’s official press release…
