ROUND 9 – BRNO – 22nd JULY 2007 – RACE
REVIEW
22nd July
2007, Brno (Czech Rep.) – The Czech track of Brno is one of the most
spectacular on the calendar, surrounded by natural features and with an
individual layout, made even more interesting and technical by a long downhill
drop through a series of corners – and then a steep climb back up to the main
straight – a feature which characterizes this Czech racetrack perfectly.
Since
Friday, and despite the really hot temperatures that were not present at the recent
development team tests in Brno, the riders rode incredibly fast, setting new
records in the different categories.
Haga took
Superpole and the new track record, while in Supersport the fastest guy was
once again Sofuoglu.

After two hot and sunny days, finding cool temperatures and an almost
grey sky on Sunday was never going to be a pleasure. The work already carried
out to get ready for the race had to be ‘re-tuned,’ and the setup of the bikes
had to be revised.
SBK riders here could count on three different rear tyres, and the “hot
tarmac” solution, on which many were pinning their hopes on. This is a tyre
which provides different behaviour if the temperature of the tarmac goes under
30°C.
Many riders had tested other solutions and were confident that the other
riders would be in some trouble if they did use it, because if the temperature
changes, then the tarmac changes its level of grip and wear.
The result was once again a really exciting race, from the first to the
very last lap, and was dominated by James Toseland, who fought and won in his
trial by combat against Biaggi, Kagayama and Haga, while at their backs Rolfo
and Fabrizio tried hard until the end to reduce the gap, setting really good
times, even in the final laps. World Champion Bayliss crashed, hit by
Muggeridge’s falling bike, at lap 11.
