MOTORCYCLE ROAD RACERS FROM SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI MAKE HISTORY

frank backing it in @ hallett smallSpringfield motorcycle racers Joe Feco, 25 and Frank “Speedy” Gonzales, 32 of Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson/Buell of Joplin, MO won a 5 hour motorcycle endurance race at Hallett Motor RacingCircuit, OK on July 28th, 2007.

The team finished with a two lap lead over the second place team. Thereis a winner every race, however never in the 33 year history of Central Motorcycles Roadracing Assoc.(CMRA) has this been done on an American built Buell motorcycle. Buell is a sportbike powered by aHarley-Davidson engine, racing in a sport dominated by Japanese motorcycles. There was a lot of recognition given to this team’s win by the competitors as well as by the track officials.

Everyone was amazed and impressed the Buell won the Formula 2 class. One competitor called it “inspiring” to see a new team like this finish in front of the 11 time class champion. The Cycle Connection team, known as“Too Much Speed” is in it’s first year of racing, so to do this well this early is an accomplishment of great magnitude.

Gonzales and Feco, who have each raced on endurance teams with their fathers, are now carrying on the family-based team tradition by racing together as brothers-in-law. Many family members often attend the races.

This is a unique team, as it is only made up of two racers, competing in a setting where it is normal to have up to five riders. Endurance races run 5-8 hours. Feco comments, “You really have to be in good mental and physical shape to run a team with only two riders.”

It is the goal of Cycle Connection to educate the sport riding community to a safer way to rideyour sport bike fast, without breaking laws and without unnecessary endangerment to self or others. To quote Gonzales, “Race on the track, not on the street”.

Cycle Connection, a 40,000 square foot dealership, recently hosted a motorcycle track day for all street riders to take their own motorcycle to the track, where an array of Buell motorcycles were available for demo rides. This makes for a wonderful opportunity, as no other manufacturer or dealership in the area offers test rides, much less on a closed circuitrace course.

These deeds should come as no surprise from a dealership that offers Motorcycle SafetyFoundation lessons onsite, hosts MDA fundraisers that raise well over $150,000 per event, and many other community events.Through teamwork, dedication, family involvement, the support of fans, and backing from Cycle Connection, more wins are in the future for this little underdog team.
