VIR.
Charleston, SC – Aug 2007 -- Millennium/KWS Suzuki
sponsored by Ron Ayers Motorsport’s team rider John Haner has come down with a
severe case of pneumonia and will be unable to compete this weekend at Virginia
International Raceway. Privateer Ben Thompson has been brought into the team as
a replacement rider for this event. Thompson, a native of Anchorage, AK, has been racing in the AMA series as a
privateer for two years. Ben has had several solid finishes in AMA competition
and qualified on pole for the last AMA Superbike race of 2006 at Mid-Ohio. Ben
will be competing in Superbike and Superstock on the Dunlop sponsored
Millennium/KWS Suzuki GSX-R1000.
Millennium/KWS Suzuki rider David Weber, who is still
recovering from injuries sustained in a crash two weeks ago at Mid-Ohio, will
also be racing in Superbike and Superstock at VIR this weekend.
John Haner – “I want to thank the team and all of the
sponsors for understanding my situation. This came on very suddenly and I am
deeply disappointed that I am unable to race this weekend. Ben is a good friend
and I know he will do well in my place. I want to wish Ben and David good luck
this weekend. I will be watching the team’s progress on TV this weekend and
doing my best to get healthy for Road Atlanta in two weeks.”
Ben Thompson –
“I am very excited
to have been given the chance to ride the Millennium/KWS Suzuki’s. They are a
great team and I have been friends with them for a long time. I want to thank
Even Steel Performance for giving me the opportunity to ride for another team.
They have been a great supporter of me and my racing. I also want to wish my
buddy John Haner a quick recovery. Get well soon John!”
Kevin Hunt (Team Owner) –
“We feel terrible
for John and the whole team is wishing him a quick recovery. I really want to
thank all the sponsors for allowing us to move so quickly to resolve this
situation. Ben is great young rider and we are very interested to see how he
does on our equipment."
