Aurora, IL (August 24, 2007) –
Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki is pleased to announce that Aaron Yates has
renewed his contract to race AMA Superstock and Superbike with the team for the
2008 season.
“I’ve been really happy with the
team’s progress this season,” said Yates. “The
Jordan race team and crew have worked very
hard and I’m looking forward to building on our success next year.”
Yates joined the Jordan Suzuki team
in 2007, quickly earning the four year old squad its first pole position and
Superstock race win at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. in April. Yates followed the success with a third place
podium finish at California Speedway in Fontana, CA. later that month. In the AMA’s premier race class of Superbike,
he has earned four front row starts and the team’s first-ever podium finish at
Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in July. Upon
signing his new contract last weekend at Virginia International Raceway, Yates
earned a second place podium finish in Superstock and the team’s second podium
result in AMA Superbike.
"Aaron
has been a great asset to the Jordan Suzuki team and to the development of our
Superbike. Aaron is a great competitor, with a lot of heart and determination,”
commented team general manager Ken Abbott. “He never gives up and works very
hard for his team. He embodies what it is to be a
Jordan
athlete and our entire team looks forward to his return to help further our
program and to make another run at the Superstock championship.”
A four time AMA champion, Yates, 33,
has won titles in the 1000 cc Superstock, 600 cc Supersport, 750 cc Supersport
and SuperTeams classes. The Georgia-born
racer turned pro in 1993 and has earned 43 career AMA National victories, four
wins in AMA SuperTwins (Harley-Davison 883) class and four wins in AMA
Super-Teams Endurance competition. Yates
resides in Georgia and is married with two
children. His hobbies include dirt bike
riding, jet skiing as well as building and racing high performance Mopar cars at
his local drag strip.
The Jordan Suzuki riders and crew
have two more race weekends in the 2007 AMA Superbike Championship: a Superbike
doubleheader at Road Atlanta August 31-September 2 in
Braselton, Georgia and the season finale September
14-16 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA.
